وَعَنْ أُمِّ مُبَشِّرٍ قَالَ : دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا فِي حَائِطٍ مِنْ حَوَائِطَ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ فِيهِ قُبُورٌ مِنْهُمْ قَدْ مَاتُوا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ، فَسَمِعَهُمْ [ وَهُمْ ] يُعَذَّبُونَ ، فَخَرَجَ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : " اسْتَعِيذُوا بِاللَّهِ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ " . قَالَتْ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وَإِنَّهُمْ لِيُعَذَّبُونِ فِي قُبُورِهِمْ ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ عَذَابًا تَسْمَعُهُ الْبَهَائِمُ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .

Sayyidah Umm Mubashshir (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me while I was in one of the gardens of Banu al-Najjar. In that garden there were some graves of people who had died in the time of Jahiliyyah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard them being punished, and he came out saying: "Seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of the grave." Sayyidah Umm Mubashshir (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, are they being punished in their graves?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, with a punishment that even the animals hear."
