Book of Funerals
بَابٌ إِلَى النَّارِ فَيَقُولُ : هَذَا كَانَ مَنْزِلَكَ لَوْ كَفَرْتَ بِرَبِّكَ ، فَأَمَّا إِذْ آمَنْتَ بِرَبِّكَ فَهَذَا مَنْزِلُكَ ، فَيُفْتَحُ لَهُ بَابٌ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ ، فَيُرِيدُ أَنْ يَنْهَضَ إِلَيْهِ فَيَقُولُ لَهُ : اسْكُنْ . وَيُفْسَحُ لَهُ فِي قَبْرِهِ . وَإِنْ كَانَ كَافِرًا أَوْ مُنَافِقًا يَقُولُ لَهُ : مَا تَقُولُ فِي هَذَا الرَّجُلِ ؟ فَيَقُولُ : لَا أَدْرِي ، سَمِعْتُ النَّاسَ يَقُولُونَ شَيْئًا . فَيَقُولُ : لَا دَرَيْتَ وَلَا تَلَيْتَ وَلَا اهْتَدَيْتَ . ثُمَّ يُفْتَحُ لَهُ بَابٌ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ فَيَقُولُ : هَذَا مَنْزِلُكَ لَوْ آمَنْتَ بِرَبِّكَ ، فَأَمَّا إِذْ كَفَرْتَ بِرَبِّكَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَبْدَلَكَ هَذَا . وَيُفْتَحُ لَهُ بَابٌ إِلَى النَّارِ ، ثُمَّ يَقْمَعُهُ مِقْمَعَةً بِالْمِطْرَاقِ يَسْمَعُهَا خَلْقُ اللَّهِ كُلُّهُمْ غَيْرَ الثَّقَلَيْنِ " .

وَعَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةَ تُبْتَلَى فِي قُبُورِهَا ، فَإِذَا أُدْخِلَ الْمُؤْمِنُ قَبَرَهُ وَتَوَلَّى عَنْهُ أَصْحَابُهُ ، جَاءَهُ مَلَكٌ شَدِيدُ الِانْتِهَارِ ، فَيَقُولُ لَهُ : مَا كُنْتَ تَقُولُ فِي هَذَا الرَّجُلِ ؟ فَيَقُولُ الْمُؤْمِنُ : أَقُولُ : إِنَّهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَعَبْدُهُ . فَيَقُولُ لَهُ الْمَلَكُ : انْظُرْ إِلَى مَقْعَدِكَ الَّذِي كَانَ لَكَ فِي النَّارِ قَدْ أَنْجَاكَ اللَّهُ مِنْهُ أَبْدَلَكَ بِمَقْعَدِكَ الَّذِي تَرَى مِنَ النَّارِ مَقْعَدَكَ الَّذِي تَرَى مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ . فَيَرَاهُمَا كِلَاهُمَا ، فَيَقُولُ الْمُؤْمِنُ : دَعُونِي أُبَشِّرُ أَهْلِي . فَيُقَالُ لَهُ : اسْكُنْ . وَأَمَّا الْمُنَافِقُ فَيَقْعُدُ إِذَا تَوَلَّى عَنْهُ أَهْلَهُ فَيَقُولُ لَهُ : مَا كُنْتَ تَقُولُ فِي هَذَا الرَّجُلِ ؟ فَيَقُولُ : لَا أَدْرِي ، أَقُولُ مَا تَقُولُ النَّاسُ . فَيُقَالُ : لَا دَرَيْتَ ، هَذَا مَقْعَدُكُ الَّذِي كَانَ لَكَ فِي الْجَنَّةِ ، قَدْ أَبْدَلَكَ اللَّهُ مَقْعَدَكَ مِنَ النَّارِ " قَالَ جَابِرٌ : " فَيَرَاهُمَا جَمِيعًا " ، فَسَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " يُبْعَثُ كُلُّ عَبْدٍ فِي الْقَبْرِ عَلَى مَا مَاتَ عَلَيْهِ ; الْمُؤْمِنُ عَلَى إِيمَانِهِ وَالْمُنَافِقُ عَلَى نِفَاقِهِ " .
قُلْتُ : فِي الصَّحِيحِ مِنْهُ : " يُبْعَثُ كُلُّ عَبْدٍ فِي الْقَبْرِ عَلَى مَا مَاتَ عَلَيْهِ " . فَقَطْ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، وَفِيهِ كَلَامٌ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ ثِقَاتٌ .
قُلْتُ : فِي الصَّحِيحِ مِنْهُ : " يُبْعَثُ كُلُّ عَبْدٍ فِي الْقَبْرِ عَلَى مَا مَاتَ عَلَيْهِ " . فَقَطْ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، وَفِيهِ كَلَامٌ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ ثِقَاتٌ .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "This Ummah will be tried in its graves. When the believer is placed in his grave and his companions leave him, an angel of fearsome aspect comes to him and says to him: 'What do you say about this man?' The believer says: 'He is the servant of Allah and His Messenger.' The angel says to him: 'Look at the abode that would have been yours in Hell. Allah Almighty has saved you from it, and in place of the abode you saw in Hell He has given you the abode you will see in Paradise.' He sees both abodes, and the believer says: 'Give me respite so that I may give this good news to my family.' It is said to him: 'Be still.' As for the hypocrite, he sits up when his family leave him, and the angel asks him: 'What do you say about this man?' He says: 'I do not know; I used to say what the people said.' It is said: 'You did not gain understanding. This is the abode that would have been yours in Paradise; Allah Almighty has given you an abode in Hell in its place.'" Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: So he sees both abodes. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Every servant will be raised in the grave in the state in which he died: the believer upon his faith and the hypocrite upon his hypocrisy." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Only this part of it is reported in the Sahih: "Every servant will be raised in the grave upon what he died upon."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat recorded it. Its chain contains Ibn Lahi'ah, and he has been criticised; the remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
