Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) found absent a man who used to sit in his company. He asked: "Why is it that I find so-and-so absent?" The people said: "He has a fever." (The narrator says:) They used the word i'tibat for fever. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Get up, so that we may go and visit him." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to that man, the young man began to weep. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not weep! For Jibril has told me that fever is my Ummah's share of Hell."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Umar bin Rashid, whom Ahmad and others declared da'if (weak), while al-Ijli declared him thiqah (trustworthy).
