Rabi'ah al-Jurashi says: I asked Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her): "What did the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recite when he woke up at night, and with what did he begin?" She said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite 'Allahu akbar' ten times, 'Alhamdulillah' ten times, 'Subhanallah' ten times, 'La ilaha illallah' ten times and 'Astaghfirullah' ten times. Then he would recite: 'O Allah! Forgive me, keep me firm on guidance and grant me provision.' He would recite (this phrase mentioned above) ten times. And he would recite (the following phrase): 'O Allah! I seek refuge in You from hardship on the Day of Reckoning.' This too he would recite ten times."
