Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 3567

Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) praying at night. I stood behind him and prayed following his (peace and blessings be upon him) prayer. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat, he shortened his standing, then he prayed two short rak'ahs, then he concluded with the salam. Then he stood up, prayed two rak'ahs, then concluded with the salam, and he let me hear the salam. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards me and said: "Bind yourself only to as many deeds as you are able to." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times.
This narration was recorded by Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, about whom criticism has been made.
