بَابٌ فِيمَنِ ادَّعَى غَيْرَ نَسَبِهِ ، أَوْ تَوَلَّى غَيْرَ مَوَالِيهِ .
One who claims a lineage other than his own or attaches himself to other than his patrons

وَعَنْ جَابِرٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : " مَنْ تَوَلَّى غَيْرَ مَوَالِيهِ فَقَدْ خَلَعَ رِبْقَةَ الْإِيمَانِ مِنْ عُنُقِهِ " .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، رَوَاهُ عَنْ جَابِرٍ خَالِدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَيَّانَ ، وَثَّقَهُ أَبُو زُرْعَةَ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
قُلْتُ : وَيَأْتِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ وَغَيْرُهُ فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّى غَيْرَ مَوَالِيهِ فِي الْفَرَائِضِ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، رَوَاهُ عَنْ جَابِرٍ خَالِدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَيَّانَ ، وَثَّقَهُ أَبُو زُرْعَةَ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
قُلْتُ : وَيَأْتِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ وَغَيْرُهُ فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّى غَيْرَ مَوَالِيهِ فِي الْفَرَائِضِ .
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whoever claims a client relationship (wala') with someone other than the master who freed him has removed the collar of faith from his neck."
Imam Ahmad recorded it; it was reported from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) by a narrator, Khalid bin Abi Hayyan, whom Imam Abu Zur'ah declared thiqah (trustworthy); the remaining narrators of this narration are the narrators of the Sahih.
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: This hadith and other hadiths about the person who claims a client relationship (wala') with someone other than his true master will come in the chapter on inheritance shares (fara'id).
Imam Ahmad recorded it; it was reported from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) by a narrator, Khalid bin Abi Hayyan, whom Imam Abu Zur'ah declared thiqah (trustworthy); the remaining narrators of this narration are the narrators of the Sahih.
