Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: In the witr, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah al-A'la in the first rak'ah, Surah al-Kafirun in the second rak'ah, and Surah al-Ikhlas in the third rak'ah.
Imam Abu Ya'la, Imam al-Bazzar and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat recorded this narration; its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Malik bin al-Walid bin Ma'dan, whom Yahya bin Ma'in declared thiqah (trustworthy), while Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) and a group declared him da'if (weak).
