Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 3349

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not pray at the time the sun rises, for it rises between the two horns of Shaytan and every disbeliever prostrates to it. And do not pray at the time it sets either, for it sets between the two horns of Shaytan and every disbeliever prostrates to it. And do not pray at midday either, for that is the time Hell is stoked."
Ahmad, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, recorded something similar; its chain contains a narrator, Layth bin Abi Sulaym, about whom there is much criticism.
Al-Tabarani also recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him), or from the brother of Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) similarly. He also recorded it from Abu Sabit: "Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): 'At what time is praying disliked?' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'From when true dawn breaks until the sun has risen to the height of one or two spears, and from when the sun has turned yellow until it sets.'"
Its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), but this report is mursal.
