Sayyiduna Murrah bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him), or perhaps Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Murrah al-Sulami (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates. Here the narrator Shu'bah stated that Mansur reported this from Salim, from Murrah, or perhaps from Ka'b. He said: I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "In which part of the night is (supplication) heard most?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The last half." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Prayer is accepted until true dawn breaks. Then no prayer is to be offered (apart from the obligatory and sunnah prayers of Fajr) until the sun has risen and until it has risen to the height of one or two spears. Then prayer is accepted until the shadow stands at the place of the spear. Then no prayer is to be offered until the sun has passed its zenith. Then prayer is accepted until the Asr prayer has been prayed. Then no prayer is to be offered until the sun has set." After this the narrator mentioned the rest of the hadith.
Ahmad recorded it through two routes, one of which is this, and the other chain is reported from Salim, from a man, from Ka'b bin Murrah al-Bahzi, without any doubt. He said: "until the Fajr prayer has been prayed" in place of the words: "until (true) dawn breaks."
Al-Tabarani recorded it likewise in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except that the second chain contains a narrator who is not named.
