Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) considered it recommended to pray some (voluntary, that is, sunnah) prayer after midday. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have seen that you consider prayer at this hour recommended." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "At this hour the gates of heaven are opened, and Allah Almighty looks upon His creation with mercy. It is a prayer that Sayyiduna Adam, Sayyiduna Nuh, Sayyiduna Ibrahim, Sayyiduna Musa and Sayyiduna Isa (peace be upon them) performed regularly."
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains Utbah bin al-Sakan. Al-Daraqutni (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "He is matruk (abandoned)." Ibn Hibban mentioned him in the book "al-Thiqat" and said: "He makes mistakes and narrates in contradiction (to other narrators)."
