Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Hazm bin Abi Ka'b bin Abi al-Qayn passed by Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was leading his people in the Isha prayer, and he began reciting a long surah. Hazm had his camel with him. He stepped back and prayed by himself, and prayed well; then he went to his camel. Later he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him about this. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, he is one of the righteous among his people." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Never be one who puts people to trial" (he said this three times), "for behind you stand the elderly, the weak, people with work to attend to, and the sick." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: This narration is in the Sahih in abridged form.
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.
