Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 2298

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was offering prayer when a Bedouin passed by with his milch camel. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured to him, but he did not understand. So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) called out to him loudly: O Bedouin, stay back! When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said the salam, he asked: Who was the one who spoke? The people said: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: This one has no understanding. I say: As far as I think, this remark was said about the Bedouin, not about Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him); and Allah knows best.
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Isa bin al-Musayyab al-Bajali, whom Imam Ibn Hibban (may Allah have mercy on him) declared thiqah (trustworthy), and Imam al-Hakim (may Allah have mercy on him) declared thiqah in al-Mustadrak, while a group declared him da'if (weak).
