Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "A woman is something to be covered ('awrah). When she goes out, Satan peers at her, and she is nearest to Allah Almighty when she is in the innermost part of her house."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.
