Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 2100

Imam Ahmad has transmitted this from Salim, who said: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was a man of protective jealousy (ghayur). Whenever he went out for the prayer, Atikah bint Zayd (who was his wife) would follow him. Sayyiduna Umar disliked her going out, and he also disliked forbidding her. He used to narrate that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When your women ask your permission to go to the prayer, do not forbid them." The narrator Salim did not hear from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).
