Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 1984

Murrah al-Hamdani narrates: I resolved to pray two rak'ahs beside every pillar of the mosque of Kufah. While I was praying in this way, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) came into the mosque. I went to him to tell him about what I was doing, but a man reached him before me and told him about my practice. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "If this man knew that Allah Almighty is present at the nearest pillar as well, he would not pass beyond that pillar until he had completed his prayer."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Ata' bin al-Sa'ib, who had become confused (in his memory, mukhtalit).
