وَعَنْ لُقْمَانَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ قَالَ : جِئْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ فَقُلْتُ : حَدِّثْنَا مَا سَمِعْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " لَوْ أَنَّ صَخْرَةً وَزَنَتْ عَشْرَ خَلِفَاتٍ ، قُذِفَ بِهَا مِنْ شَفِيرِ جَهَنَّمَ مَا بَلَغَتْ قَعْرَهَا سَبْعِينَ خَرِيفًا حَتَّى تَنْتَهِيَ إِلَى غَيٍّ وَأَثَامٍ " . قِيلَ : وَمَا غَيٌّ وَأَثَامٌ ؟ قِيلَ : " بِئْرَانِ فِي جَهَنَّمَ ، يَسِيلُ فِيهِمَا صَدِيدُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ ، وَهُمَا اللَّذَانِ ذَكَرَهُمَا اللَّهُ فِي كِتَابِهِ : " أَضَاعُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَاتَّبَعُوا الشَّهَوَاتِ فَسَوْفَ يَلْقَوْنَ غَيًّا " وَقَوْلُهُ : " وَمَنْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ يَلْقَ أَثَامًا " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ ضُعَفَاءُ قَدْ وَثَّقَهُمُ ابْنُ حِبَّانَ وَقَالَ : يُخْطِئُونَ .
Luqman bin Amir says: I came to Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "Narrate to me a hadith that you heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." He said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "If a rock weighing as much as ten pregnant she-camels were thrown from the edge of Hell, it would not reach its bottom even in seventy years, until it reaches 'Ghayy' and 'Atham'." It was asked: "What is meant by 'Ghayy' and 'Atham'?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They are two wells in Hell in which the pus of the people of Hell flows, and they are the two which Allah Almighty has mentioned in His Book in these words: (Allah Almighty says:) 'They neglected the prayer and followed their desires, so they will soon meet Ghayy.' (And Allah Almighty says:) 'And whoever does that will meet Atham.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains weak narrators whom Ibn Hibban declared trustworthy, saying: "They make mistakes."
