Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "For the bad people of my Ummah, the best man is 'I'." One of the people sitting with him said to him: "O Messenger of Allah! How will you be for the good among them?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As for the bad people of my Ummah, Allah Almighty will admit them into Paradise because of my intercession; and as for the righteous, Allah Almighty will admit them into Paradise because of their deeds."
At-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Jami' bin Thawb al-Rahabi; according to the well-known view his name has a fatha on the jim and a kasra on the mim, and according to one view it is in the diminutive form (Jumay'). Al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) said about this narrator: "He is munkar al-hadith (his narrations are rejected)." An-Nasa'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "He is matruk al-hadith (abandoned)." Ibn Adi says: "His narrations indicate that he is da'if (weak)." The rest of the narrators of this narration are the narrators of the Sahih.
