Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 18510

Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "When Allah Almighty gathers all the first and all the last people and judges between them, and when He has finished judging between them, the believers will say: 'Our Lord has judged between us; now we want someone to intercede for us in the court of our Lord. Come with us to Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him)! For he is our forefather; Allah Almighty created him with His Hand and spoke with him.' They will come to Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him) and speak with him, asking that Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him) intercede for them. Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him) will say: 'You must go to Sayyiduna Nuh (peace be upon him).' They will come to Sayyiduna Nuh (peace be upon him), and Sayyiduna Nuh (peace be upon him) will direct them to Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him). They will come to Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him) will direct them to Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him). They will come to Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him), and Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) will direct them to Sayyiduna Isa (peace be upon him). Then they will come to Sayyiduna Isa (peace be upon him), and he will say: 'I direct you to the unlettered Prophet.' Then they will come to me, and Allah Almighty will give me permission to stand up. From my sitting place there will spread the purest fragrance that anyone has ever smelled, until I come to my Lord. He will accept my intercession and will make for me a light from the hair of my head to the nails of my feet. Then the disbelievers will say: 'The believers have found someone to intercede for them; who will intercede for us?' They will say: 'Only Iblis can do this, who led us astray.' They will come to him and he will stand up, and from his sitting place there will spread the foulest stench that anyone has ever smelled. Then he will lead them to Hell, and at that time he will say what is mentioned in the Qur'an in these words: 'And Satan will say when the matter has been decided: Indeed, Allah promised you a true promise, and I promised you, but I broke my promise to you.'"
At-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Rahman bin Ziyad bin An'um, who is da'if (weak).
