Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "I am going to ask you about three things." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ask whatever you wish." He said: "How long will people stand before the Lord of all the worlds on the Day of Resurrection? How hard will that standing be for the believer? And is there any other station between Paradise and Hell?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As for your question about how long people will stand before the Lord of all the worlds, it will be (a period of) 1000 years, and they will not be given permission. As for your question about how hard that standing will be for the believer, the believers will be two groups. As for those who are foremost, it will be like two men who converse in a whisper, their whispered conversation becomes long, and then they both go away (it will feel only that long), and they will be admitted into Paradise." I said: "How easy this is!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As for your question whether there is any other station between Paradise and Hell, between them is my Pool. Its upper edge adjoins Paradise and part of its upper edge adjoins Hell. Its length is a month's journey and its breadth is also a month's journey. Its water is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey. In it there will be cups of silver and vessels of glass. Whoever drinks one cup from it will feel neither thirst nor grief until judgment is passed between the people." (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: A narration from this Companion mentioning the Pool is recorded in the "Sahih".
Tabarani recorded this narration; its chain contains Hisham bin Bilal, whom I do not know, and the remaining narrators of this narration have been declared trustworthy.
