Abu al-Za'ra' narrates: People mentioned the Dajjal in the presence of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: People will be divided into three groups. One group will follow the Dajjal; one group will go to the land of their forefathers, where the herb called shih grows; and one group will come to the bank of the River Euphrates. The Dajjal will fight them and they will fight the Dajjal, until the believers gather in the western region of al-Sham. They will send some people to bring them news of the Dajjal; among them will be a horseman riding a bright sorrel horse, or riding a piebald horse. They will take part in the fighting, and none of them will return. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: People claim that Sayyiduna Isa (peace be upon him) will descend and kill the Dajjal. The narrator says: I did not hear Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate any report from the People of the Book other than this. Then Ya'juj and Ma'juj will come out; they will spread through the earth and cause corruption. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse: "And they will come rushing down from every height." Then Allah Almighty will send upon them a creature like the worm called naghaf; it will enter their ears and their nostrils, because of which they will die. The earth will become foul-smelling because of them, and people will seek refuge with Allah from this situation. Allah Almighty will send down rain upon them by which the earth will be cleansed. Then Allah Almighty will send a wind containing intense cold; every believer on the face of the earth will pass away through that wind, and then the Hour will be established upon the worst of people. Then the angel will stand by the Trumpet between the heaven and the earth and will blow into it, and all the creation of Allah Almighty will die, except those concerning whom your Lord has willed (that they not die). Then between the two blowings there will be as long an interval as Allah wills. In the earth some part of the body of every human being will remain. Then Allah Almighty will send down water from beneath the Throne, which will be like the semen of men; through this water people's bodies and their flesh will sprout, just as vegetation sprouts from the earth through water. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse: "Allah is the One who sends the winds, and they stir up clouds; We drive them to a dead land and thereby give life to the earth after its death. Such will be the Resurrection." Then the angel will stand with the Trumpet between the heaven and the earth and blow into it, and every soul will enter its body. They will rise up; they will all come to life in one and the same manner, and stand before the Lord of all the worlds. Then Allah Almighty will appear before His creation. Whatever anyone of the creation used to worship besides Allah Almighty, that object of worship will appear before him, and he will follow it. Allah Almighty will come before the Jews and ask: Whom did you worship? They will reply: Sayyiduna Uzayr (peace be upon him). Allah Almighty will say: Would you like water? They will reply: Yes. Allah Almighty will show them Hell, which will be like a mirage. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse: "And on that Day We will present Hell to the disbelievers." Then He will come before the Christians and say: Whom did you worship? They will reply: Sayyiduna al-Masih (peace be upon him). Allah Almighty will say: Would you like a drink? They will reply: Yes. So Allah Almighty will show them Hell, which will appear to be a drink. The same will happen with all those who used to worship anything besides Allah Almighty. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse: "And stop them; they are to be questioned." Until Allah Almighty comes to the Muslims and meets them, and asks: Whom do you worship? They will say: We used to worship Allah Almighty and we did not associate anyone with Him as a partner. Allah Almighty will speak to them sternly once or perhaps (this doubt is the narrator's) twice: Whom do you worship? They will reply: Subhan Allah! When He appears before us, we will recognise Him. At that time the shin will be uncovered, and every believer will fall into prostration; only the hypocrites will remain, all their backs alike, as though there were iron rods in them. They will say: O our Lord! (And it will be said to them:) You used to be called to prostration before, while you were sound (but at that time you did not prostrate). Then Allah Almighty will give the command concerning the Bridge (Sirat), and it will be laid over Hell. People will cross over it in different groups according to their deeds. The first group among them will pass like the flash of lightning, then others like the blowing of the wind, then like a bird in flight, then like a swift animal. He said: Then people will keep passing in this way, until one man will pass running and another man will pass walking, until the last of them will pass dragging himself on his belly, and he will say: O my Lord, You held me back. The Lord will say: Your deeds held you back. Then Allah Almighty will give the command for intercession, and on the Day of Resurrection the first of those who intercede will be Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him), then Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him), then Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him). The narrator is in doubt; perhaps the words are: then Sayyiduna Isa (peace be upon him). The narrator Salamah says: Then your Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) will stand; in the matters in which intercession can be made, no one will intercede after him. This is the "Praiseworthy Station" (al-Maqam al-Mahmud) which Allah Almighty has promised (that is, which is mentioned in the Qur'an in these words:) "It may be that your Lord will raise you to a praiseworthy station." Every person will look at a house in Paradise and a house in Hell, and it will be said: If only you had done good deeds; that will be the Day of Regret. He says: The people of Hell will see the house that is in Paradise, and it will be said: If only you had done good deeds. And the people of Paradise will see the house that is in Hell, and it will be said: Had Allah Almighty not shown you favour (you would not have attained Paradise). Then the angels, the prophets, the martyrs, the righteous and the believers will intercede, and Allah Almighty will accept their intercession. Then Allah Almighty will say: I am the Most Merciful of those who show mercy. So, through the mercy of Allah Almighty, a greater number of people will come out of Hell than came out through all the creation (that is, through the intercession of all the creation), until no individual in whom there is any good will remain in Hell. Then Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse: "What brought you into Saqar?" Then Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) counted on his hand: they will say: "We were not of those who prayed, nor did we feed the poor, and we used to indulge (in falsehood) along with those who indulged, and we used to deny the Day of Recompense, until certainty came to us." Sufyan says: He showed with his hand by counting (that is, indicating with his fingers) that it would be so; he counted on four fingers, and Abu Nu'aym demonstrated it by doing so. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do you see any good in any one of these? When Allah Almighty intends that no one more should come out of Hell, He will change their faces and their complexions. Then a man from among the believers will come and intercede, and it will be said to him: If you recognise anyone, take him out. That man will come and look, but he will not find anyone. Then a person of Hell will say to him: O so-and-so, I am so-and-so. He will say: I do not recognise you. Then they will say (that is, what is mentioned in the Qur'an in these words): "Our Lord, bring us out of it; if we return (to such deeds), then indeed we will be wrongdoers." He (the Lord) will say: "Remain despised in it and do not speak to Me." (Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says:) When they say this, Hell will be closed over them, and then no human being will be able to come out of it.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and
it is mawquf (a Companion's statement) and contradicts the "sahih" hadith; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I will be the first to intercede."
