Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to her house and asked: Where are my two sons? By this the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) meant Hasan and Husayn. Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: We have woken up this morning in such a state that there was nothing in our house that anyone could taste. So Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will take the two of them with me, because I fear that they will cry in front of you while you have nothing. So Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) has gone to so-and-so the Jew. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went there and found the two of them playing, with some leftover dates lying in front of them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Ali! Will you not take my two sons back before the heat becomes intense? Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We have woken up this morning in such a state that there was nothing in our house. O Messenger of Allah! If you would remain seated, so that I may gather some dates for Fatimah as well. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat down until Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) had gathered some dates for Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) and put them in a pouch. Then he came, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) carried one of the two boys and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) carried the other, and they brought them both back.
Al-Tabarani recorded this narration, and its chain is hasan (good).
