عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ - يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ - قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " إِنَّ مِنَ الْإِيمَانِ أَنْ يُحِبَّ الرَّجُلُ رَجُلًا لَا يُحِبُّهُ إِلَّا لِلَّهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ مَالٍ أَعْطَاهُ فَذَلِكَ الْإِيمَانُ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ . قُلْتُ : وَقَدْ تَقَدَّمَتِ الْأَحَادِيثُ فِي الْحُبِّ لِلَّهِ وَالْبُغْضِ لِلَّهِ فِي كِتَابِ الْإِيمَانِ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is part of faith that a man loves another person, and loves him only for the sake of Allah Almighty, not because of some wealth the other person gave him; that is faith."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: Before this, in the Book of Faith, hadiths have passed concerning love for the sake of Allah Almighty and hatred for the sake of Allah Almighty.
