In one narration the words are: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Bilal! Give us some dates to eat." So he gave him several handfuls. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Bilal! Give us more!" Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I gave him more three times, then I said: "Now only what I have kept aside for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remains." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Bilal! Spend, and do not fear any scarcity from the Owner of the Throne."
Tabarani recorded it, and Bazzar recorded it in abridged form, but he narrated these words: "He had a heap of wealth." In the first narration of Tabarani and in the chain of Bazzar there is Muhammad bin al-Hasan bin Zabalah, and in the second narration there is Talhah bin Zayd al-Qurashi, and both of them are da'if (weak). Bazzar said: What is correct in this is that it is narrated from Masruq that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him).
