It is reported about Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Umarah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was from Banu Sa'd bin Bakr and had the honor of being a Companion, that a man said to him: "Give me some advice concerning myself, may Allah Almighty have mercy on you!" He said: "When you are about to perform prayer, first perform ablution well, for the one who has no ablution has no prayer, and the one who has no prayer has no faith. Then, when you pray, pray as one who is departing would pray. Abandon seeking most of your needs, for that is a poverty that is present. Despair of what is in people's hands, for that is true richness. And examine which word or deed requires an apology, and avoid it."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
