Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 17475

Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "All of my Ummah will be pardoned, except those who do things openly." It was said: O Messenger of Allah, who are those who do things openly? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The person who does some (evil) deed at night and his Lord conceals it for him, but in the morning he gets up and says: 'O so-and-so, last night I did such a deed.' So that person removes Allah Almighty's veil from himself."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Awn bin Umarah, who is da'if (weak).
