Majma al-Zawaid 17226 — What the servant wishes for
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا تَمَنَّى أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَنْظُرْ مَا يَتَمَنَّاهُ ; فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَدْرِي مَا يُكْتَبُ لَهُ مِنْ أُمْنِيَّتِهِ " . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَأَبُو يَعْلَى ، وَإِسْنَادُ أَحْمَدَ رِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you makes a wish, he should consider what he is wishing for, for he does not know which of his wishes has been written down as his lot."
