Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 17223

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The most beloved way of supplicating to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was that he would supplicate three times.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), except that the narrator named Abu Ubaydah did not hear from his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him).
