Sayyiduna Abu Tarif (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); this was at the time when he (peace and blessings be upon him) had laid siege to Ta'if. He (peace and blessings be upon him) offered the Asr prayer at such a time that, if a person shot an arrow, he could see where his arrow landed. Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, but he recorded these words: "He (peace and blessings be upon him) offered the Asr prayer at that time", whereas the correct version is that he (peace and blessings be upon him) offered the Maghrib prayer at that time, as Ahmad recorded this report with these words of his: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the Maghrib prayer."
This report will come later, if Allah wills. Its chain contains a narrator, al-Walid bin Abdullah bin Sumayrah; al-Tabarani said it this way, while Ahmad recorded the words: al-Walid bin Abdullah bin Abi Shumaylah. I have not found anyone who gives his biography. I say: He is al-Walid bin Abdullah bin Abi Sumayr, and according to one view he is called Ibn Sumayrah. Imam Ibn Hibban (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned him in the book "al-Thiqat".
