Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the day of the Battle of the Trench (Khandaq) we said: O Messenger of Allah! Is there anything we may recite? For our hearts have reached our throats. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes!
'Allahumma ustur 'awratina, wa amin raw'atina' (O Allah, cover our hidden weaknesses and grant safety from our fears.)"
The narrator says: Then Allah Almighty sent a wind against the enemy, and by means of that wind Allah Almighty routed them.
Ahmad and al-Bazzar recorded it. Al-Bazzar's chain is connected (muttasil) and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), and the same applies to Ahmad's narrators; however, in my copy of the "Musnad" it is written:
this report is from Rubayh bin Abi Sa'id, from his father, whereas in the Musnad of al-Bazzar it is reported that he, from his father, from his grandfather,
narrated this report.
