Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) report this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Allah Almighty has chosen four phrases from speech: 'Subhanallah, al-hamdu lillah, la ilaha illallah, Allahu akbar' (Glory be to Allah; all praise is for Allah; there is no deity except Allah; Allah is the Greatest). Whoever recites 'Subhanallah', twenty good deeds are recorded for him and twenty of his sins are erased; whoever recites 'Allahu akbar' receives a reward like that; whoever recites 'La ilaha illallah' receives a reward like that; and whoever recites 'Al-hamdu lillahi Rabbil-'alamin' (All praise is for Allah, Lord of the worlds) of his own accord is given thirty good deeds, and thirty of his sins are erased."
