In one narration the words are: "We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the road to Makkah when he said: 'The people of Yemen will come to you; they will be like clouds (bringing benefit), and they will be the best of the people on the face of the earth.' A man from the Ansar said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Are we not?' (That is, are we not the best people on the face of the earth?) The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. The man said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Are we not?' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. The man said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Are we not?' Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in a low voice: 'Except that your case is different.'"
Ahmad and Abu Ya'la recorded it, but Abu Ya'la recorded these words: "A man from the Ansar said: 'Except that our case is different.'" Al-Bazzar recorded something similar. The narrators of one of Ahmad's two chains, and of the chains of Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar, are the narrators of the Sahih.
