وَعَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ قَالَ : لَمَّا حَضَرَتِ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - الْوَفَاةُ ، قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَوْصِنَا . قَالَ : " أُوصِيكُمْ بِالسَّابِقِينَ الْأَوَّلِينَ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ ، وَبِأَبْنَائِهِمْ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ ، إِلَّا تَفْعَلُوهُ لَا يُقْبَلُ مِنْكُمْ صَرْفٌ وَلَا عَدْلٌ " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَالْبَزَّارُ ، إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " أُوصِيكُمْ بِالسَّابِقِينَ الْأَوَّلِينَ ، وَبِأَبْنَائِهِمْ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ ، وَبِأَبْنَائِهِمْ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ " . وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .

Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the time of the death of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) drew near, the people said: "O Messenger of Allah, give us counsel." He said: "I counsel you regarding the first forerunners among the Muhajirun, who emigrated at the beginning, and their sons after them. If you do not do so, none of your obligatory or voluntary worship will be accepted."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and Imam al-Bazzar recorded it, but with these words: "I counsel you regarding the first forerunners, and their sons after them, and their sons after them." The narrators of both reports are thiqat (trustworthy).
