Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 16110

Sayyiduna Amir bin Laqit al-Amiri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and gave him the glad tidings of my people's acceptance of Islam and their obedience; I had come to him as a delegate (wafid). When I told him about this, he said: You are a blessed delegate; may Allah Almighty bless you.
The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed his hand over my forehead, then he shook hands with me. My people had expressed their good wishes for him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty has intended nothing but good for Banu Amir. By Allah! Were it not that the forefather of Quraysh had contended with them over it, the caliphate would have gone to Banu Amir bin Sa'sa'ah; but because the forefather of Quraysh disputes with them in lineage, that did not happen. Then, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the house, he asked: Have you fed your guest anything? Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: We placed some dates before him, and we had nothing other than them. The narrator says: Meanwhile the goats came back, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that a goat be slaughtered. I disliked this, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: What troubles you? We are slaughtering it for ourselves; when our goats exceed one hundred by even one, we slaughter it for ourselves.
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ya'la bin al-Ashdaq, who is a kadhdhab (liar).
