Abd al-Malik bin Umayr narrates: There was a boy in Madinah whose kunyah was Abu Mus'ab. He came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and at that time ears of grain were lying in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He split open an ear of grain, then blew into it, and then gave it to the boy, and he ate it. The Ansar used to regard it as a cause of shame for a person to eat the husked ear of grain. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave that thing to him, the boy did not give it back. Sayyiduna Abu Mus'ab (may Allah be pleased with him) states: Then I got up from the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); I had not yet gone far when I came back to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I submitted: "O Messenger of Allah! Pray to Allah Almighty for me that He keep me with you in Paradise." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Who taught you this?" I replied: "No one." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I will do so." When I turned away from there, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called me and said: "Help me concerning yourself by prostrating abundantly." The narrator says: I came to my mother, and she asked me, so I told her: "I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). An ear of grain was brought; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) split it open, and with his two blessed hands he put his blessed saliva into it, and then he handed it to me, and I did not like to give it back." My mother said: "You did right." The narrator says: Then I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for me.
Al-Bazzar recorded it. The beginning of the narration appears to be mursal; then the narrator says: "Sayyiduna Abu Mus'ab states." It appears that he heard it from him, and Allah knows best. The narrators of this narration are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Talut bin Abbad, and he is thiqah (trustworthy).
