Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 1603

Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man from the Ansar swore an oath that he would never do any voluntary deed, and that he would not abandon anything Allah Almighty had made obligatory upon him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you find fault with a man who, if he were to swear an oath by Allah, Allah Almighty would fulfil it?"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Sadaqah bin Abdullah al-Samin, whom Ahmad and a group declared da'if (weak), while Duhaym and Abu Hatim declared him thiqah (trustworthy).
