Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 16009

Imam al-Tabarani states: The kunyah of Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) is "Abu Abdullah". According to one view, he was from the Himyar tribe of Yemen, and he was a mawla (client) of the family of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). It has been said: He had been taken captive, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) bought him and set him free. He used to live in Hims. He died in 55 AH.
