Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Dimam bin Tha'labah came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! Shall I not perform ruqyah (blow a healing incantation) on you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "All praise belongs to Allah Almighty; we seek His help, and we seek refuge in Allah Almighty from the evil of our own selves and from the evils of our deeds. Whomever Allah Almighty guides, there is none to lead him astray, and whomever Allah Almighty leaves astray, there is none to guide him. And I bear witness that there is no god except Allah Almighty, and that Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger." Dimam said: "I have read the scriptures; I have read the Torah, the Gospel and the Psalms, but I have never heard speech like this. Repeat these words to me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated these words to him. Then the narrator mentioned that he accepted Islam.
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The report concerning a man named "Dimad" (with a dal) is mentioned in the Sahih, and I have not found the name "Dimam" (with a mim) in any report.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and he gave the man's name as "Dimam"; the narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
