عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ : كَانَ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ حُضَيْرٍ مَنْ أَفَاضِلِ النَّاسِ ، وَكَانَ يَقُولُ : لَوْ أَكُونُ فِيمَا أَكُونُ عَلَى حَالٍ مِنْ أَحْوَالِ ثَلَاثَةٍ لَكُنْتُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ ، وَمَا شَكَكْتُ فِي ذَلِكَ حِينَ أَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ ، وَحِينَ أَسْمَعُهُ يَقْرَأُ ، وَإِذَا سَمِعْتُ خُطْبَةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَإِذَا شَهِدْتُ جِنَازَةً ، وَمَا شَهِدْتُ جِنَازَةً قَطُّ فَحَدَّثْتُ نَفْسِي بِسِوَى مَا هُوَ مَفْعُولٌ بِهَا ، وَمَا هِيَ صَائِرَةٌ إِلَيْهِ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ وَأَحْمَدُ بِنَحْوِهِ ، وَرِجَالُهُ وُثِّقُوا . وَقَدْ تَقَدَّمَ حَدِيثٌ فِي فَضْلِهِ فِي آخِرِ مَنَاقِبِ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ .
Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Sayyiduna Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him) was one of the people of virtue. He used to say: "In three kinds of situations, if I were to remain in the state I am in then, I would be one of the people of Paradise, and I have no doubt about it: first, when I am reciting the Qur'an, or when I am listening to the recitation of the Qur'an; and when I am listening to the sermon of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); and when I attend a funeral, I think only about what will now happen to him and to what state he will go."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and Ahmad recorded something similar, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy. A hadith about his virtue has already passed at the end of the virtues of Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him).
