Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Ukaydir, the (ruler) of Dumah, sent the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a cloak (jubbah) made of sundus (fine silk), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) put it on. The people were amazed at it (that is, they liked it very much). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Are you amazed at this? By the One in whose Hand is my soul, the handkerchiefs of Sa'd bin Mu'adh in Paradise are better than this. The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent that cloak to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). He submitted: O Messenger of Allah! You disliked it, so shall I wear it? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Umar! I sent it to you so that you might give it to someone and obtain wealth in exchange for it. The narrator says: This was before silk was forbidden.
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: This narration is mentioned in the Sahih in abridged form, in which it is only mentioned that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent that cloak to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), with the part from there to the end.
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
