وَعَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ : كَانَ أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ يُدْعَى بِالْأَمِيرِ حَتَّى مَاتَ ، يَقُولُونَ : بَعَثَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - ثُمَّ لَمْ يَنْزِعْهُ حَتَّى مَاتَ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ مُرْسَلًا ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Al-Zuhri narrates: Sayyiduna Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) was called "the Commander" until his death. People used to say: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him (as commander) and then did not remove him from that post until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away.
