Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 15520

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports: Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) sent Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on some errand. Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) found a man present with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he went back without saying anything to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Later the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: Did you see him? He said: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: That was Jibril. And this one (i.e. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both)) will not die until his sight has gone, and he will be given knowledge.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat with various chains, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
