وَعَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ : مَرَرْتُ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَعَلَيْهِ ثِيَابٌ بِيضٌ ، وَهُوَ يُنَاجِي دِحْيَةَ بْنَ خَلِيفَةَ الْكَلْبِيَّ ، وَهُوَ جِبْرِيلُ - عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ - وَأَنَا لَا أَعْلَمُ ، فَلَمْ أُسَلِّمْ ، فَقَالَ جِبْرِيلُ : يَا مُحَمَّدُ ، مَنْ هَذَا ؟ قَالَ : " هَذَا ابْنُ عَمِّي ، هَذَا ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ " . قَالَ : مَا أَشَدَّ وَضْحَ ثِيَابِهِ ، أَمَا إِنَّ ذُرِّيَّتُهُ سَتُسَوِّدُ بَعْدَهُ ، لَوْ سَلَّمَ عَلَيْنَا رَدَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ . فَلَمَّا رَجَعْتُ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " يَا ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تُسَلِّمَ ؟ " . قُلْتُ : بِأَبِي وَأُمِّي رَأَيْتُكَ تَنَاجِي دِحْيَةَ بْنَ خَلِيفَةَ ، فَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ تَنْقَطِعَ عَلَيْكُمَا مُنَاجَاتُكُمَا . قَالَ : " وَقَدْ رَأَيْتَ ؟ " . قُلْتُ : نَعَمْ . قَالَ : " أَمَا إِنَّهُ سَيَذْهَبُ بَصَرُكَ ، وَيُرَدُّ عَلَيْكَ فِي مَوْتِكَ " .
قَالَ عِكْرِمَةُ : فَلَمَّا قُبِضَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ، وَوُضِعَ عَلَى سَرِيرِهِ ، جَاءَ طَائِرٌ شَدِيدُ الْوَهَجِ ، فَدَخَلَ فِي أَكْفَانِهِ ، فَأَرَادُوا نَشْرَ أَكْفَانَهُ ، فَقَالَ عِكْرِمَةُ : مَا تَصْنَعُونَ ؟ هَذِهِ بُشْرَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - الَّتِي قَالَ لَهُ ، فَلَمَّا وُضِعَ فِي لَحْدِهِ ، تُلُقِّيَ بِكَلِمَةٍ سَمِعَهَا مَنْ عَلَى شَفِيرِ قَبْرِهِ : ( يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ ارْجِعِي إِلَى رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَرْضِيَّةً فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي ) . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ مَنْ لَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ .
قَالَ عِكْرِمَةُ : فَلَمَّا قُبِضَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ، وَوُضِعَ عَلَى سَرِيرِهِ ، جَاءَ طَائِرٌ شَدِيدُ الْوَهَجِ ، فَدَخَلَ فِي أَكْفَانِهِ ، فَأَرَادُوا نَشْرَ أَكْفَانَهُ ، فَقَالَ عِكْرِمَةُ : مَا تَصْنَعُونَ ؟ هَذِهِ بُشْرَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - الَّتِي قَالَ لَهُ ، فَلَمَّا وُضِعَ فِي لَحْدِهِ ، تُلُقِّيَ بِكَلِمَةٍ سَمِعَهَا مَنْ عَلَى شَفِيرِ قَبْرِهِ : ( يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ ارْجِعِي إِلَى رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَرْضِيَّةً فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي ) . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ مَنْ لَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports: I passed by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while I was wearing white clothes. At that time the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was talking with Sayyiduna Dihyah bin Khalifah al-Kalbi (may Allah be pleased with him), who was in fact Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him), but I did not know this, so I did not greet them with salam. Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) asked: O Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! Who is this? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is my cousin; this is Ibn Abbas. Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) said: How very white his clothes are! But after him his descendants will wear black. Had he greeted us with salam, we would have returned his greeting. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: When I came back to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked me: O Ibn Abbas! Why did you not greet with salam? I said: May my father and mother be sacrificed for you! I saw that you were speaking in confidence with Sayyiduna Dihyah bin Khalifah (may Allah be pleased with him), and I did not like to interrupt your conversation. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Did you see him? I said: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You will lose your sight, and then at your death it will be restored to you. Ikrimah says: When Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) passed away and his body was placed on the bier, an intensely white bird came and entered his shroud. The people wanted to open his shroud, but Ikrimah said: What are you about to do? This is the glad tidings described by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both). When the body of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was placed in the niche of the grave, the people standing at the edge of the grave heard someone reciting: "O soul at peace! Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing. Enter among My servants, and enter My Paradise."
