Shayban bin Mukharram, who was an Uthmani (a partisan of Uthman), said: I was with Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) when he came to Karbala, and he said: "A martyr will be killed at this place; there will be no martyr like him, except the martyrs of Badr." I thought: Perhaps this is one of his false statements. There was the leg of a dead donkey lying there, so I said to my slave: "Take the leg of this donkey, drive it into the ground at the place where he sat, and hide it." So he struck it in with a blow. The narrator says: When Sayyiduna Imam Husayn bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) was martyred, I set out with my companions, and there was the body of Sayyiduna Husayn bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) lying upon the leg of that donkey, and the bodies of his companions were lying around him.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Ata bin al-Sa'ib, who is thiqah (trustworthy) but his memory became confused (ikhtilat); the remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
