عَنْ سَوْدَةَ بِنْتِ مُسَرَّحٍ قَالَتْ : كُنْتُ فِيمَنْ حَضَرَ فَاطِمَةَ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا - حِينَ ضَرَبَهَا الْمَخَاضُ فِي نِسْوَةٍ ، فَأَتَانَا النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ : " كَيْفَ هِيَ ؟ " . قُلْتُ : إِنَّهَا لَمَجْهُودَةٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " إِذَا هِيَ وَضَعَتْ فَلَا تَسْبِقُنِّي فِيهِ بِشَيْءٌ " . قَالَ : فَوَضَعَتْ ، فَسَّرُوهُ وَلَفُّوهُ فِي خِرْقَةٍ صَفْرَاءَ ، فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ : " مَا فَعَلْتِ ؟ " . فَقُلْتُ : قَدْ وَضَعَتْ غُلَامًا ، وَسَرَرْتُهُ وَلَفَفْتُهُ فِي خِرْقَةٍ . فَقَالَ : " عَصَيْتِنِي ؟ " . قُلْتُ : أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ مَعْصِيَتِهِ ، وَمِنْ غَضَبِ رَسُولِهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ! قَالَ : " فَائْتِنِي بِهِ " . فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِهِ ، فَأَلْقَى عَنْهُ الْخِرْقَةَ الصَّفْرَاءَ ، وَلَفَّهُ فِي خِرْقَةٍ بَيْضَاءَ ، وَتَفَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فِي فِيهِ ، وَأَلْبَأْهُ بِرِيقِهِ ، فَجَاءَ عَلِيٌّ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ - فَقَالَ : " مَا سَمَّيْتَهُ يَا عَلِيُّ ؟ " . قَالَ : سَمَّيْتُهُ جَعْفَرًا . قَالَ : " لَا . وَلَكِنْ حَسَنٌ وَبَعْدَهُ حُسَيْنٌ ، وَأَنْتَ أَبُو حَسَنٍ " .
Sayyidah Sawdah bint Musarrih (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I was among the women who were present with Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) at the time of her giving birth. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us and asked: "How is she?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah, she is in distress." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When she gives birth to the child, you are not to do anything regarding the child before me." The narrator says: When Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) gave birth to the child, they cut its umbilical cord and wrapped it in a yellow cloth. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and asked: "What happened?" I said: "She has given birth to the child; I have cut its umbilical cord and wrapped it in a cloth." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Did you disobey me?" I said: "I seek refuge in Allah from that disobedience, and I also seek refuge from the anger of His Messenger." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring the child to me." I brought him to him, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) removed the yellow cloth from him and wrapped him in a white cloth. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) put his saliva into the child's mouth and gave him tahnik with his saliva. Then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O Ali, what have you named him?" He said: "I have named him Ja'far." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No! Rather, this is Hasan, and after him will be Husayn, and you are Abu Hasan."
