Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 1498

Sayyidah Maymunah bint Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I said: "O Messenger of Allah! May one of us eat something while in a state of janabah?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He should not eat anything until he performs ablution." I said: "O Messenger of Allah! May a person in a state of janabah sleep?" He said: "I do not like that he should sleep in a state of janabah until he performs ablution, for I fear that if he dies in that state, Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) will not come to him."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain mentions that Uthman bin Abd al-Rahman narrated it from Abd al-Hamid bin Yazid. The narrator Uthman bin Abd al-Rahman is al-Harrani al-Tara'ifi, whom Yahya bin Ma'in declared thiqah (trustworthy). Abu Hatim says: "He is saduq (truthful)." Abu Arubah al-Harrani and Ibn Adi say: "There is no harm in him; he narrates from unknown people." Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) and Abu Ahmad al-Hakim say: "He narrated from weak people." Abu Hatim says: "In narrating from weak people he resembles Baqiyyah."
