عَنْ سَعْدٍ قَالَ : بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أَسَتَخْبِرُ لَهُ خَبَرَ قَوْمٍ ، فَذَهَبْتُ وَأَنَا أَسْعَى حَتَّى صِرْتُ إِلَى الْقَوْمِ ، ثُمَّ جِئْتُ وَأَنَا أَمْشِي عَلَى هَيْئَتِي حَتَّى صِرْتُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَسَأَلَنِي ، فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ ، فَقَالَ : " ذَهَبْتَ شَدِيدًا ، ثُمَّ جِئْتَ عَلَى هَيْئَتِكَ ؟ " . - أَوْ كَمَا قَالَ - فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي كَرِهْتُ أَنْ أَسْعَى ، فَيَظُنَّ بِيَ الْقَوْمُ أَنِّي قَدْ فَرَقْتُ . فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " إِنَّ سَعْدًا لَمُجَرِّبٌ " .
رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ ، وَإِسْنَادُهُ حَسَنٌ .

Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to find out news of the enemy. I went running until I reached the people. Then, when I came back, I came walking at a normal pace until I reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked me about the situation, and I informed him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you went, you went running, and when you came back, you came at a normal pace?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah! I disliked to come running and have the enemy think about me that I was perhaps fleeing." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sa'd is an experienced man."
