Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: In the lifetime of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: Allah Almighty has said: "If he dies or is killed, will you turn back on your heels?" (Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say:) By Allah, we will not turn back on our heels after Allah Almighty has guided us. If the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passes away or is martyred, I will fight for that for which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fought, and I will keep doing so until I die. By Allah, I am the brother of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), his wali (ally), his cousin and his heir. Who has a greater right to him than I?
Al-Tabarani recorded this narration, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
