Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say to Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him): "Indeed Allah Almighty has adorned you with an adornment the like of which He has not adorned His servants with. Indeed Allah Almighty has made the poor beloved to you, and being close to them beloved to you. He has made you an imam for them, with whom you are pleased, and He has made them your followers, who are pleased with you. So glad tidings to the one who loves you and speaks the truth about you, and woe to the one who hates you and lies about you. As for the one who loves you and speaks the truth about you, such people will be your neighbours in your abode and your companions in Paradise. As for those who hate you and lie against you, it is binding upon Allah Almighty to make them stand in the standing-places of the liars."
Al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Ali bin al-Hazawwar, who is matruk (abandoned).
