وَعَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ ، وَزَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ : أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَ لِعَلِيٍّ حِينَ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَغْزُوَ : " إِنَّهُ لَا بُدَّ مِنْ أَنْ أُقِيمَ أَوْ تُقِيمَ " . فَخَلَّفَهُ . فَقَالَ نَاسٌ : مَا خَلَّفَهُ إِلَّا شَيْءٌ كَرِهَهُ ، فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ عَلِيًّا ، فَأَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَأَخْبَرَهُ ، فَتَضَاحَكَ ثُمَّ قَالَ : " يَا عَلِيُّ ، أَمَا تَرْضَى أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنِّي بِمَنْزِلَةِ هَارُونَ مِنْ مُوسَى ؟ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ نَبِيٌّ بَعْدِي " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ بِإِسْنَادَيْنِ ، فِي أَحَدِهِمَا : مَيْمُونٌ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَصْرِيُّ ، وَثَّقَهُ ابْنُ حِبَّانَ ، وَضَعَّفَهُ جَمَاعَةٌ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ بِإِسْنَادَيْنِ ، فِي أَحَدِهِمَا : مَيْمُونٌ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَصْرِيُّ ، وَثَّقَهُ ابْنُ حِبَّانَ ، وَضَعَّفَهُ جَمَاعَةٌ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to go on a military expedition, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "It is necessary that either I stay or you stay." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) behind. Some people said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left him behind only because of something he disliked." When this reached Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him about it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) laughed, then said: "O Ali! Are you not pleased to be to me as Sayyiduna Harun (peace be upon him) was to Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him), except that there will be no prophet after me?"
Al-Tabarani recorded it with two chains. One of the two chains contains Maymun Abu Abdullah al-Basri, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy) and a group declared da'if (weak); the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
