Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent us on a military expedition and appointed Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) as our commander. When we came back, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "How did you find your companion?" The narrator says: Either I complained about him or someone other than me complained about him. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head; I was a man who mostly kept his eyes lowered to the ground. (When I looked up,) the face of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had turned red, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever I am the wali of, Ali is also his wali." I said: "I will never again say anything about him that displeases you."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
